چکیده

We are pleased to present this joint special issue of Macromolecular Bioscience and Advanced Materials Interfaces titled “Biointerfaces Biopolymers”. In the last decades there has been an explosion in material science with revolutionary concepts that merge state-of-the-art chemistry, physics, biology, nanoscience technology. Concurrently, basic research biological materials started shed light nature's design rules, which allows unprecedented functionality by self-assembly molecules across several levels hierarchy, scales time domains. These advances synergistically being translated a number biomaterials, implants, medical devices, biosensors or drug carriers having huge impact society. A contemporary example this, vaccines consisting RNA encapsulated lipid nanoparticles protect us against SARS-CoV-2. Arguably, success these technologies demands seamless integration programming controlling what happens at interface between non-biological environment. Following scientific especially two decades, current trend is deliver increasingly cleverly designed complexity molecular supramolecular level steer lifeless matter towards tuned often optimized interactions materials. cornerstone for goal – we expect be further decade come display high degree selectivity, means invisible unwanted while allowing preferably even enhancing specific ones. This encompasses work on antifouling, antimicrobial coatings, efforts understand way they interact media, including nucleic acid, proteins, bacteria, marine organisms blood as well applications such biolubrication, adhesion, biosensing, tissue engineering, gene delivery. The breadth immediately clear different classes studied, polymer nanocoatings, sharklet-inspired microstructures, inorganic materials, cell membrane mimics addressed. articles summarize some most important urgent challenges field also pose central questions should pursued. thank all who contributed their Interfaces' editorial offices, hope trust will spark new ideas contribute field.

Protein/Peptide Aggregation and Amyloidosis on Biointerfaces

Recently, studies of protein/peptide aggregation, particularly the amyloidosis, have attracted considerable attention in discussions of the pathological mechanisms of most neurodegenerative diseases. The protein/peptide aggregation processes often occur at the membrane-cytochylema interface in vivo and behave differently from those occurring in bulk solution, which raises great interest to inve...

Designing fractal nanostructured biointerfaces for biomedical applications.

Fractal structures in nature offer a unique "fractal contact mode" that guarantees the efficient working of an organism with an optimized style. Fractal nanostructured biointerfaces have shown great potential for the ultrasensitive detection of disease-relevant biomarkers from small biomolecules on the nanoscale to cancer cells on the microscale. This review will present the advantages of fract...

Electroactive polymer-peptide conjugates for adhesive biointerfaces.

Electroactive polymer-peptide conjugates have been synthesized by combining poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), a polythiophene derivative with outstanding properties, and an Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD)-based peptide in which Gly has been replaced by an exotic amino acid bearing a 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene ring in the side chain. The incorporation of the peptide at the ends of preformed PEDOT chains has b...
